Patient and Family Instructions

In order to provide you and your child the best quality of care please follow the guidelines below.)

Your Day at Surgery

  • Due to limited space we ask that only two adults, preferably parents, accompany the patient on the day of surgery.
  • Please leave siblings, or other family members at home if at all possible.  This is a very long day, there is no food or drink allowed in the surgery center, and no recreation facility in the area.
  • If you are not the parent and have legal custody please bring in the legal documents stating that you are the custodial parent. If you are a foster parent please bring documentation from a case worker giving consent for surgical treatment, anesthesia, and any emergency care needed.( ISD authorizations, Medicaid cards are not considered proof of custody.)
  • Please bring $4.00 as this is the parking fee in the adjoining parking garage.      

Surgery Instructions

Night before surgery:

  • No food or liquids(milk, water, juice, etc.) after 12 midnight.

Day of Surgery:

  • Bring an extra pair of clothes as children sometimes have  accidents.
  • Bring custody papers when necessary.
  • Do not feed child breakfast or allow them to have any liquids.
  • Bring copy of insurance card, drivers license, any co-pay or deductible due at the time of service if applicable.
  • Be prepared to give a medical history of your child.

Day after surgery:

  • Home instructions will be given to you after the surgery.
  • Please call the doctor if you feel your child is having any problems.
  • The surgical center will be calling you at home as a courtesy follow up.
